Cookie Jar

Cookie jars: our mothers all had one, and we grew up learning how to get at it, no matter how high the shelf it was put upon.

Sometime it didn’t have cookies in it though; it instead was the hiding place for the rainy day fund, a sinful indulgence, or whatever.

In any case, every home needs a cookie jar to hold what they hold best, all your favorite cookies. Old recipes, new recipes, or someone else’s cookie recipes, it doesn’t matter, just as long as they’re good.

Sometimes only the last few morsels remain, ignored in the bottom of the near empty jar, because a bite just isn’t enough to quench that cookie craving. You so know what I’m talking about, don’t you? Midnight munchies, a huge glass of milk, and only crumbs. Bummer.

Cookie jars are not just used for practical purposes. Some are so precious they are just too pretty and unique, which puts them directly into the look but don’t touch category, and others have hardly been removed from the box.

If you’re looking for a new jar for daily use or as an ornamental addition to your china cabinet, you are sure to find what you’re looking for online. Hand made, hand painted, rare, vintage, cartoon characters, farm animals, you name it, it is out there somewhere.

Not sure where to start? Check out www.about.com to find out everything you ever wanted to know about cookie jars, collecting, new jars, reproduction information, and much more.

If you are interested in collecting, visit the American Cookie Jar Association at www.cookiejarclub.com, an internet club which promotes the hobby of collecting cookie jars and bringing collectors together.

Cookie jars make great gifts, and there is also a great collection of vintage jars available for purchase online from www.cookiejars.net. This site says their jars are vintage and slightly used, but most are in their original boxes.

Another site to visit for fine collectibles, ceramic cookie jars, advertising cookie jars, and unique gifts is www.janicewise.com. Lots of great retailers online, and don’t forget to check out eBay, especially if you’re looking for a vintage piece or a replacement for a long lost favorite.

Other online retailers include www.cookiejargifts.comwww.thecookiejar.net, www.cookiejarcollectibles.com, and www.thecookiejarstore.com, in addition to many other retailers of unique kitchen and gift items. So if you don’t have a cookie jar, you should now have plenty of places to start looking for one.
